Perspective on NPD

Producer, writer and teacher Beppe Singer has created three films featuring AcadeMedia employees sharing their perspectives on different perspectives on NPD (neuropsychiatric disabilities). These experts and their viewpoints have also created AcadeMedia’s approach to NPD.

  1. Medical perspective
  1. Organisational perspective
  1. Pedagogic perspective

Each film is between 20 and 25 minutes. In addition to the films, we’ve provided suggestions for reflections and questions for viewers to consider either on their own or together with colleagues.

The training is mainly aimed at educational staff, school leaders and the various competencies of student health, but may also be useful for others, including parents and carers.

To the films

Lina Cohen, MD and psychologist for AcadeMedia’s upper secondary school segment, and Therése Saksø, head physician for AcadeMedia’s primary schools, discuss medical perspectives on neuropsychiatric disabilities with Beppe. What happens in the body and how can we best meet needs and alleviate concerns?

Reflection questions

In what way can you/your organisation benefit from the knowledge provided in the treatment pyramid? How can you/your organisation use this in practice and within the framework of your school’s mission?

Which issues around medical perspectives of NPD create the most questions and uncertainty for you/your organisation?

How could you work to create an understanding of the medical perspectives around NPD and common approaches regarding how we meet the needs of children and students?

Thinking about the above, what is easy and what is more challenging?

How could you further develop your work in this area?  What outcomes do you want to achieve? How will you know when you’ve succeeded?

Beppe interviews Pernilla Engqvist Widegren, headteacher at Klara Theoretic upper secondary school and Oliver Ylvenius, principal at Klara Stockholm East. They discuss creating an organisational ethos that meets the support and stimulation needs of all children and students.

Reflection questions

Which questions regarding organizational perspectives on NPD create the most questions and uncertainty for you/your organisation?

How do you/could you work to create good organizational conditions to support and prioritise the needs of children and students?

Thinking about the above, what is easy and what is more challenging?

How could you further develop your work in this area?  What outcomes do you want to achieve? How will you know when you’ve succeeded?

In this film, Beppe leads a conversation with David Granlund, teacher at Vittra Telefonplan, and Hanna Rondahl, special pedagogue for AcadeMedia elementary school’s central student health department, about how we in education can concretely use encouragement and prevention to create an accessible learning environment for everyone.

Reflection questions

Which questions regarding learning-related perspectives at NPD create the most questions and uncertainty for you/your organisation?

How do you/could you create good education practices that support and prioritise the needs of all children and students?

Thinking about the above, what is easy and what is more challenging?

How could you further develop your work in this area?  What outcomes do you want to achieve? How will you know when you’ve succeeded?
